G’day everyone. How was your summer holiday? It has been great, hasn’t it?

A few months ago, I was a frog of the well who knows nothing about the great ocean. But in this summer holiday, this little frog opened her eyes to new possibilities as she finally jumped out from the well to the ocean, Australia. In these 50 days, she had a unique experience.

The little frog joined an immersion programme and she found a whole new world. A totally different learning style, environment and culture inspired me a lot. The learning style in Australia is so different from that in Hong Kong, less assessments, and the aid with laptop in lessons. Yes, I am the little frog. I found it relaxing to learn in this way and I enjoyed this unique learning style too. What we do in Australia is to search information from the Internet and share what we have found. In this way, we can learn from each other and have more interaction. The final project we had to do was a PowerPoint but the local students in FCAC needed to submit a video which they made by themselves with not much help from teachers. That was much more difficult than what we had to do and I really found it amazing to see their independent work.

Food technology is my favourite subject. We cooked different kinds of food around the world like Italian and Chinese food. We could eat the food we made after the lesson and the feeling of eating Chinese food in Australia is interesting. By eating food from different places, we learn different cultures while eating. I do think exchanging cultures in eating was great fun!

All of my memory is like a movie playing in my mind now. The last thing I would like to share with you is my birthday which I didn’t expect they would celebrate with me.

My unforgettable memory was on the 21st of August. I can’t believe on the day I was 13 going on 14 years old, I had a surprising party. My host family and friends spent their precious time to design a surprising party for me. The feeling was like a prince proposing to a beautiful girl. I think I am a lucky girl with all the blessing.

The trip is truly beneficial to me in many ways. It helps us to become more independent and mature. Also, it improves my English and my confidence in it. I really thank my family, my host mum and our school as they all give a little girl a sweet and relaxing time in this summer holiday.
